About Thriving in Safe Places

A Practice Built on Compassion, Evidence and Twenty-Five Years in the Field

We believe everyone deserves a space where healing, growth and self-discovery can genuinely take root. Here is the story of how that belief became a practice.

Our Founder

Rose Nyakato Kiiza

Public Health Specialist, Counselling Psychologist and Sociologist, and the Founder and Chief Executive Director of Thriving in Safe Places.

Rose has spent more than twenty-five years in international development and humanitarian work, much of it in communities across Uganda where mental wellness support was scarce and often stigmatised. That work took her into boardrooms and rural homesteads alike, and in both places she kept meeting the same truth: people were carrying pain they had never been given room to put down.

She founded Thriving in Safe Places to build that room. Her focus throughout her career has centred on child protection, women's empowerment, mentoring and career coaching, and community led development, and those same priorities now shape how this practice treats every client who walks through the door: with dignity first, and judgement never.

Rose leads a multidisciplinary team of psychologists, counsellors, psychiatrists, social workers, medical doctors, career coaches and mentors, coordinating care that treats the whole person rather than a single symptom.

Mission

We believe mental wellness is a right for everyone, delivered with respect through holistic healing, professional collaboration and capacity building. We help individuals, families, institutions and communities turn challenges into resilience and growth, building this with the people we serve and empowering them as partners in creating safe spaces where every person can flourish.

Vision

A world where mental wellness is achieved by everyone, with respect and without judgement. Together we transform communities into safe places where every person can flourish.
